New dates for powerchair hockey Euros

International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Powerchair Hockey have announced the new dates for the 2020 European Championships which were postponed earlier in the year.

The competition will now take place from 31 May – 7 June 2021 in Pajulahti, Finland, the original host city.

IWAS Powerchair Hockey and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) have determined that a one year delay would ensure the safety and unrestricted participation of all athletes.

The Sport Congress will also still take place in the days following the Championships.

Fort Wayne 2019 wins award

The organisers of the 2019 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Goalball and Judo International Qualifier in Fort Wayne, USA, have won an award for the competition held between 2-9 July.

Sports Destination Management, the leading publication with the largest circulation of sports event planners and tournament directors in the sports tourism market in the USA, has recognised Fort Wayne 2019 as one of its Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism.

IWRF 2019-2024 Strategic Plan Available

The Board of Directors of the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation is pleased to present the 2019-2024 Strategic Plan. This Plan was developed after an extensive review of the progress made by the IWRF since becoming an independent federation in 2010, our last Strategic Plan, and surveying our member nations.

Para Taekwondo set to inspire at Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games

The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) has confirmed that para taekwondo has been included in the official programme of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Para Games as the sport continues to grow and reach more people around the world.

The 4th edition of the Asian Para Games will take place on 9 – 15 October 2022, with fans set to be treated to the excitement and drama of para taekwondo for the first time.

Julio Cesar Avila elected APC President

Colombian Julio Cesar Avila has been elected as Americas Paralympic Committee (APC) President following four rounds of voting at the APC General Assembly in Lima, Peru.

He was chosen ahead of fellow presidential candidates Julie Dussliere of USA and Lucha Villar of Peru.

“I am thrilled to have received the support of the APC membership; I am speechless and emotional,” said Avila.

First IBSA Blind Football Women's World Championships to be held

In a ground-breaking development for the women's game, the IBSA Football Committee is launching a call for bids to organise the first ever world championships for women.

IBSA member organisations are invited to submit a bid to host the 1st IBSA Blind Football Women's World Championsips in 2020. The committee is planning a competition involving between 8 and 10 teams and lasting around 10 days, and the event should be hosted preferibly after the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic games in September.

IBSA General Assembly to discuss key topics on future of blind sports

The 2019 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) General Assembly and Conference will get underway in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA, on Thursday (4 July), aiming to map out the future of the organisation.

Delegates from around the world are gathering in central Fort Wayne, first for the IBSA Conference and then the 11th General Assembly on 5 July.
